Former EY Managing Partner joins Co Angel team as investor base hits 100
Barry’s appointment comes as the number of high net worth private investors from across the UK and overseas working within Co to invest in Greater Manchester businesses reached 100 this month. Co is Greater Manchester’s approach to angel investment and works with businesses to access equity investment from Angel investor syndicates, the Angel Co Fund and VCs.
Barry joins BFS, which is part of the Manchester Growth Company, from his role as managing partner of EY’s Liverpool office, having spent 36 years with EY, 21 as a partner. Throughout his career Barry has played a significant role in driving entrepreneurship across the North West and has worked with many new and growing companies, from start ups through PE backed to FTSE 250. Barry will be working with the BFS Co Angel team to leverage investment from syndicates of Angel investors into ambitious and growing businesses in GM, leading in particular on major corporate and institutional relationships.
The Co investor base also now includes the newly formed Northern Investor Syndicate which brings together a number of high net worth individuals in the North West who are looking to invest in opportunities in Manchester specifically, ranging in size from £50k to £2m and covering key sectors including digital and creative, life sciences, fintech, environmental technology, advanced engineering and new media.
Barry said: “Joining the BFS team really fulfills my long-held ambition to develop my career-long experience of supporting hundreds of companies across many industries, all stages of development, and at all points on the success spectrum with expert advice and help in areas including investment appraisal, due diligence, deal structuring and post investment support. The Co programme has already leveraged a remarkable amount of support for GM businesses and to have a significant investor base to work with is an enormously exciting challenge for the future.”
