Jake Adams from Jake Mina Associates has been shortlisted for the 2017/18 Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards in the Young Microentrepreneur category. Responsible Finance visited Adam to interview him ahead of the awards and BFS were there to show our suport.
The Citi Microentrepreneurship Award’s celebrate the amazing achievements of responsible finance providers and the inspiring entrepreneurs they support. This award recognises the success of an outstanding young entrepreneur between the age of 18 and 25 who have benefited from the support of a responsible finance provider. A prize fund of £6,000 will be presented to the winner. This category emphasizes youth, creativity and innovation; an individual with vision and passion.
In 2016 Jake founded Creative Print and Jake Mina Associates. Jake rolled his services out to the public, private and third sector organisations. Jake approached BFS in July 2016 and was advanced a £25k Start-Up loan. Jake needed the funds to support the general start-up costs and also to set up a website that could take orders and automate some of the process to speed up customer service.
JMA & Creative Print initially started as Community Printing in 2012 whilst Jake was in high school providing business cards, flyers and promotional merchandise to charities and third sector organisations at very low costs. Jake started volunteering for his local charity when he was aged 7 helping the elderly with luncheon clubs and trips out and this then progressed into assisting with IT issues when the idea of providing charities printing came to light.
From August 2016 to 31st May 2017 the company had a turnover of more than 26K and during that time they were able to develop a website for the company to sell their large-format printing through. The website, www.monkeybanners.co.uk, allows customers to generate bespoke prices through their 'quick-quote' calculator, checkout and upload their artwork through their website or select a design package for them to create their artwork for them. This website went live in March 2017 and the investment helped the business create an online platform whereby customers are able to have a quick and easy purchasing experience through one streamlined process. They have also been able to invest money in new equipment so their customers are always receiving the highest possible quality in large-format printing.
We wish Jake the best of luck and look forward to the awards in April.Back
